Dikili is an holiday resort about 120 km to the north of Izmir. Dikili is on the Aegean Coast between Ayvalik and Izmir. According to the archeological excavations made in the Dikili region, Dikili has a past that goes back to 5000 BC. The ancient name of Dikili was Aternagus and the Akas used to live here. The ancient city, being very close to Pergamum, was used as a port of Pergamum. Dikili is preferred by the visitors for its calm and quite atmosphere and its long beaches extending up to 40 kilometers. Besides sea and history the thermal springs of Dikili are also very famous. There are also thermal springs in the Bademli Village very near Dikili.

The caves and the crater lakes around Merdivenli and Denizkoy and the forests extending towards the Madra Stream are also important natural beauties of the Dikili Region. Another must see is the Merkez Mosque which is a rare example of a wooden construction which was built in 1789 without using any nails.

Candarli, a subdistrict of Dikili, is about 20 km away from Dikili. The town's name comes from Candarli Halil Pasha (Pasha meaning General in the Ottoman Army) who built a castle here. Candarli Castle is a must see in Dikili because it's one of the best preserved castles to be found in the Aegean Region. Candarli's antic name was Pitane.
